Accused sentence to life for two rape cases

Ficksburg: 27-Year-old Tumo Modise was sentenced to life and eight years for two rape cases of a 65-year-old senior citizen and a 28-year-old female.

In March 2017 at about 16:00 the elderly woman was walking alone in the street next to the Ficksburg train station stretching her legs as she usually did. She passed a male who was urinating in the street. Suddenly he grabbed her from behind and raped her three times within the bushes. The incident was seen by three males who were collecting scrap metals within the bushes. The suspect ran away naked from the scene when they approached him. Though they recognise him, they chose to assist the victim and took her to her sister’s s home where they called the police and gave the name and description of the suspect to the police. Three months later he raped a 28-year-old woman, his neighbour’s girlfriend. In September 2018 the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Kobeli received a tip off about the whereabouts of the suspect and managed to arrest and detained him. He was positively linked to both rapes through DNA.
