Agricultural Innovation to Be Highlighted at 2026 World Food Day Event

Tosca Village:Innovation in agriculture and sustainable food production will be the focus at the 2026 World Food Day commemoration. Government and its partners plan to showcase initiatives aimed at strengthening food security, improving livelihoods, and combating hunger.

According to South African Government News Agency, the event will take place on October 16, 2026, in the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality, North West, in collaboration with the national Department of Agriculture, the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).

Agriculture Minister Willie Aucamp and North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Madoda Sambatha will lead the event, which will gather government leaders, farmers, community members, development partners, and other stakeholders. The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow,” emphasizing the importance of innovation in enhancing agricultural production, building resilient food systems, and ensuring sustainable access to food.

The North West province was chosen to host the national event due to food security challenges identified in the Food and Nutrition Security Survey Report. The commemoration will feature practical interventions to boost food production, support vulnerable households, and encourage community participation in sustainable agricultural activities, with backing from government and its partners.

Additionally, several food security projects will be launched as part of ongoing efforts to improve food access, strengthen livelihoods, and contribute to the eradication of hunger.
