Gauteng Launches Rehabilitation of Seven Bridges in Tshwane to Boost Road Safety

Tshwane:The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has initiated the rehabilitation of seven bridges along provincial routes in the City of Tshwane. This project is part of an ongoing effort to preserve critical road infrastructure, enhance road safety, and support local economic development across the province.

According to South African Government News Agency, the rehabilitation project aims to restore the structural integrity of the bridges, ensuring they remain safe and reliable for motorists, pedestrians, and surrounding communities. The initiative was marked by a ceremony attended by the MMC for Roads and Transport in Tshwane, Councillor Tlangi Mogale.

The project includes various rehabilitation and maintenance interventions, such as repairs to bridge rails and parapets, painting, joint replacements, crack sealing, and resurfacing. It also involves widening selected bridges and improving road approaches. The bridges targeted for rehabilitation are located along key provincial routes within the Tshwane Regional District and the northwest of Tshwane.

MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela emphasized the importance of maintaining bridge infrastructure as part of the broader road infrastructure program. The rehabilitation project is expected to contribute to local economic development and improve the quality of life for residents by ensuring safe, functional transport networks.

The Department has urged road users to exercise caution in areas affected by construction activities, where temporary traffic management measures may be implemented.
