Over the past two weeks, Cape Town residents and various stakeholders have heeded the call to #SpringCleanCT.

Since the City of Cape Town launched the #SpringCleanCT campaign, the public have enabled us to do more together through various community clean-ups.
The City is happy to report that community-led clean-ups have resulted in over 26 800 bags of litter, including recyclables, being removed in the past two weeks of the campaign.

‘It is encouraging to see more people joining the #SpringCleanCT campaign. It is all of our responsibility to ensure we keep our communities clean. The City has also added 300 temporary workers to pick up litter around hotspots, which is showing results,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.
The City has launched a 24-hour toll-free number to report tip-offs about illegal dumping activity. Those convicted of illegal dumping could be fined up to R5 000, have their vehicle impounded, or face a two-year prison sentence. In addition, for every report that leads to a fine and conviction, the City is offering a reward from R1000 up to R5000, depending on the offence.

‘I am happy to see that our solid waste by-law enforcement unit has been busy alongside our awareness teams in handing out fines for those who were found in transgression. A total of 149 notices were issued in the past two weeks,’ said Alderman Twigg.

To notify the City about dumping that needs to be cleared, please call 0860 103 089. Please include photographs or details that can help Law Enforcement identify and penalise the culprits.
