City corrects alleged electricity ‘scam letter’ circulating in Meadowridge area

The City of Cape Town’s Energy Directorate is in the process of improving electricity services in the Meadowridge and Bergvliet area. As the City needs to gain access to properties with overhead connection wires which are typically situated at the back of the property, or inaccessible for various reasons, a pamphlet is usually circulated to inform residents that the City’s contractor would require access. However, regrettably a pamphlet with incorrect details was distributed.

The City sincerely apologises for this mishap and for any inconvenience caused. Corrective measures are being taken to rectify the situation.

All customers who are fed via overhead connection wires are to be visited by the City’s electrical contractors, which is Ampcor in this case. To notify customers of this, a pamphlet will be distributed by City staff.

The correct pamphlet will be delivered by City electrical staff who are working in the Muizenberg district office. City staff will present customers with their City identification card. The upgrade is expected to take place over the next few years.

All municipal workers and contractors carry a City-issued identification card. Residents should please ask to check the official ID card before allowing anyone onto their property.

The identification card must display the City logo; the name and surname of the staff member or mandated contractor; and must contain an embedded photo of the staff member or mandated contractor.
