Community patrollers committed in cleaning up their streets

Gqeberha: High levels of crime especially violent crimes which often leads to injury, loss of life and possessions, often pose a serious threat to our communities therefore every effort must be made to involve the communities in interdependence and shared responsibility in order to ensure a safe and secure environment. Our concerted efforts of building partnerships and working together with communities and stakeholders in the fight against crime will ensure that criminality is not given a chance to flourish within our communities

On Saturday, 6/03 about 80 community patrollers took to the streets with SAPS members in Kwazakele with the aim of cleaning the streets as well as creating awareness relating to crime and criminals operating in the area. Gun-free and gender based violence pamphlets were distributed by the patrollers so that the community can be educated on a safer gun free society as well as taking a stance on GBV. Each patroller was aware of maintaining professionalism and ethical conduct. The community in Zwide appreciated the efforts of the community patrollers.

Acting Mount Road Cluster Commander, Brig Thandiswa Kupiso encouraged such initiatives at all police stations within the metro and commended SAPS Kwazakele and their community patrollers for their dedication and commitment in ensuring that all people are and feel safe within their community. ‘Community safety is a way of creating a safe and healthy environment for all. One of the objectives of the community patrollers is increased visibility in order to deter criminal activities. Proactive participation in crime prevention initiatives such as this will definitely impact on crime,’ added Brig Kupiso.
