Deputy Minister Cassim to Address Student Concerns at Fort Hare University

KuGompo:Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Yusuf Cassim is set to visit the University of Fort Hare's KuGompo City Campus to address student safety and living conditions in accredited and leased student residences. The visit is scheduled for Monday, 5 October.

According to South African Government News Agency, the oversight visit is in response to concerns raised by students via the Deputy Minister's Helpdesk. The objective is to engage directly with both students and university management to explore practical solutions to these issues.

The Deputy Minister's responsibilities encompass student accommodation and housing delivery in the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector, as well as ensuring student wellbeing and safety. These duties necessitate direct engagement with students to assess their challenges and collaborate with the university and relevant entities to establish practical remedial actions and clear timelines.

Joining Deputy Minister Cassim will be officials from the Department of Higher Education and Training University Education Branch and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). The engagement will involve discussions with university management, the Student Representative Council (SRC), and other relevant officials in the Eastern Cape.
