Deputy Minister Gina to Address Young Scientists at Eskom Expo Finals

Johannesburg:The Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Nomalungelo Gina, is set to address South Africa's aspiring young scientists at the 2026 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists finals in Johannesburg.

According to South African Government News Agency, the event marks the 46th Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair, culminating in a public exhibition at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg.

Dr. Gina will engage with 316 finalists showcasing their research in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation. These young scientists are competing for R9 million in prizes and bursaries alongside further opportunities.

The Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation stated, "The learners advanced to the finals through workshops, district expos, and regional science fairs. Along the way, they received expert feedback and continued refining their research projects."

Additionally, 24 international participants from countries including Brazil, India, and China will join the event. Dr. Gina will also present a special award to the 2026 National Mentor winner, aligning with the DSTI's new science engagement strategy.
