Gauteng police arrest over 900 suspects and recover 18 unlicensed firearms over the weekend

PARKTOWN – More than nine hundred suspects are due to appear at the various Magistrate Courts from tomorrow on charges related to murder, attempted murder, rape, drunk and driving, house robbery, business robbery and possession of drugs.

Eighteen (18) of these suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms during stop and search operations and tip-offs from members of the community.

These firearms that are suspected to have been used during the commission of house robberies, hijackings and murders were found in several areas of Gauteng that includes Johannesburg CBD, Kagiso, Douglasdale, Lenasia, Orange Farm and Kempton Park.

Furthermore, intelligence-driven operations yielded positive results in Johannesburg where more than two hundred suspects were arrested for crime ranging from assault, robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs.

Over four hundred and eighty nine suspects were arrested in Tshwane by the integrated law enforcement agencies. These suspects were arrested during the roadblocks, raiding of illegal liquor outlets, tracing of wanted suspects as well as stop and search for crime ranging from murder, possession of suspected stolen goods, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The presence of the police were also felt in Ekurhuleni and West Rand where police arrested more than three hundred suspects who allegedly committed crimes that include house robbery, rape, murder, possession of unlicensed firearm, assault and attempted murder.

As police are intensifying operations to deal with serious and violent crimes, members of the community are commended for taking charge by reporting crime as it happens.
