Praktiseer:Limpopo Three police officers in Limpopo, including one woman, have been arrested following separate investigations into theft and corruption allegations.
According to South African Government News Agency, the arrests were carried out on Wednesday by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit with assistance from the Polokwane Tactical Response Team. A 46-year-old male officer faces two counts of theft after allegedly obtaining a complainant's bank card unlawfully while the complainant was in police custody. The case was reported by Burgersfort SAPS in December 2023, and the officer is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Investigations revealed that two withdrawals totaling R9,000 were made from the complainant's account. The Director of Public Prosecutions directed that the officer be charged with theft, leading to the issuance of a J50 warrant for his arrest.
In a separate incident, two officers aged 33 and 47 are accused of corruption after allegedly soliciting and receiving R1,000 from a foreign national. The complainant was allegedly taken to his residence by the officers, who demanded money in exchange for not arresting him on suspicions of being in the country illegally. This case was registered at Ohrigstad SAPS in August 2026, resulting in J50 warrants and the arrest of the officers.
Both accused are set to appear in Praktiseer Magistrate's Court today. Limpopo's Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers, praised the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit for their diligent work and emphasized the importance of integrity within the SAPS.
