Over a hundred suspects nabbed during operation ‘Swara Tsotsi’ in Thohoyandou

THOHOYANDOU – The police have on Friday, 26 July 2019, arrested one hundred and sixty four (164) suspects during a high density operation that was conducted from the early hours, in and around the Thohoyandou area.

Operation ‘Swara Tsotsi’ was first launched in Polokwane on 28 June 2019, and is executed through roadblocks, stop and searches, compliance inspections at businesses including liquor outlets and tracing of wanted suspects.

Yesterday’s operation was led by the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mr Namane Dickson Masemola, accompanied by the Cluster Commander of Thohoyandou, Major General Rosina Mulaudzi, from Polokwane, Major General Lediga Mashilo and Giyani, Major General Mbazima Ngobeni and other Senior Officers. The operation comprised of different SAPS units, Traffic, officials from Home Affairs and Health Departments.

The suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from Assault, Contempt of Court, Drunken Driving, Contravention of Immigration Act to Contravention of Road Traffic Act. They will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, who joined the debriefing session of this operation, appreciated the work done by members and asserted that these operations must be sustained.
