EASTERN CAPE – Due to the hectic schedule of the Easter Bunny, SAPS Mount Road and the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) were roped in to assist the Easter Bunny meet his deadline.

Schools in the Mount Road cluster are being visited since Monday and Easter eggs handed out to leaners. This morning, police went to two schools in Algoa Park namely Piet Retief and Young Park primary schools. Before handing out the Easter eggs, police spoke to the children about taking care of themselves during the long Easter weekend. Capt Sandra Janse van Rensburg spoke to the learners about informing their parents where they are at all times. Children are very vulnerable and adults who have criminal minds will use every possible tactic to take advantage of them. Therefore, parents need to know where their children are at all times and with whom they are with as well. Be careful when using your cellphones as predators surf the net all the time looking for a victim and in most cases they target younger children. Never invite any person you do not know on your chat groups or Facebook, cautioned Capt Janse Van Rensburg. After this informative session, all the children received an Easter egg.

The FCS Unit also took time off this morning and paid a visit to the 3-year-old victim who was shot about 2 weeks ago in gang violence in the Northern areas. Members took clothes, and Easter eggs to the child at his home in Martin Street Gelvandale. His parents were surprised at the kind gesture displayed by the police and was very appreciative of their visit.
