The MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture in the Northern Cape, Ms Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba, accompanied by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri, Deputy Provincial Commissioners, Major General Otola and Mnguni attended an Imbizo at Promise land settlement in Galeshewe.

The Imbizo was opened with a scripture reading and prayer by Chaplain (Captain) Phoko.

The Provincial Commissioner outlined the purpose of the Imbizo. He pointed out that the Imbizo is aimed at actively engaging with communities throughout the province in order to address their various crime concerns. He emphasized that the community should feel free to raise any criminal concerns in order to initiate relevant intervention.

The Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Major General Mguni appealed to the community to assist the police as part of community policing initiatives in the fight against criminality while Maj Gen Otola addressed the community about crimes against women and children urging them to act against abuse and to report crime.

The Station Commander of Kagisho, Colonel Mohammed outlined the most prevalent crimes in Kagisho ranging from robberies, rape, drug related crimes to burglaries. He appealed to the community to assist in curbing these crimes.

The Imbizo was facilitated by Mr Gomba, the Chairperson of Francis Baard Community Board. It was also attended by the Provincial Community Police Board Chairperson, Mr Epraim Homan, Community Police Board PRO, Mr Tafel, Acting Cluster Commander Of Francis Baard, Brigadier Tip Brink, Brigadier Sebili from ORS and Brig Ramatseba from Corporate Communication.

After engagement with the community, the MEC gave her keynote address on behalf of the MEC for Transport Safety and Liaison, Mr Lebogang Motlhaping. She emphasized the importance of the community to partner with the police in fighting crime.

The Chairperson of the Provincial community police Board Mr Homan concluded the session with the vote of thanks.

Mr Tafel, Community Police Board PRO closed with a prayer.
