Public Works Welcomes Investigation into North West Road Tender

Pretoria: The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) has expressed its approval of the proclamation issued by President Cyril Ramaphosa, which authorizes the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to investigate the awarding of the project for the special maintenance of Road P152/1 from Setlagole and Road P34/4 in Delareyville.

According to South African Government News Agency, the SIU will examine whether the procurement process, contracting, and related payments of the tender were conducted in a fair, competitive, transparent, equitable, cost-effective, and legal manner. The DPWI has confirmed its full cooperation with the investigation.

In a statement, the department highlighted that the Director-General of the DPWI, Sifiso Mdakane, has communicated with the North West Head of Department, indicating the national department's readiness to assist with the investigation. The Director-General has requested the provincial department's Head of Department to ensure the provision of all necessary documents and information, aiming for an unhindered investigation process facilitated by the prompt delivery of requested records.

The DPWI acknowledged its involvement in the Section 100 intervention in the North West Department of Public Works and Roads, focusing on restoring normality, enhancing accountability, and ensuring effective systems to deliver essential public infrastructure services. The department reiterated its commitment to good governance, transparency, and ensuring that public infrastructure resources are managed in the best interests of communities.
