SAPS Family paid last respect to one of their members, Warrant Officer Patrick Xakayi in Queenstown today.

Warrant Officer Xakayi, who was attached to Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Queenstown, lost his life in a car accident while on duty on the 15th February 2019. After joining the South African Police Service from the Municipal Police in Athlone, Cape Town, Warrant Officer Xakayi left a mark in different fields of work, inclusive of Vispol, Dog Unit, Detective Services and Vehicle Crime Investigation.

Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mntunzima Nyengule, praised Warrant Officer Xakayi for his discipline and for leading his juniors with example and discipline. “Warrant Officer Xakayi was one of the disciplined investigators in the organization.” he explained.

Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Zithulele Dladla also characterised Warrant Officer Xakayi as a determined and courageous young man. “He was a determined and courageous young man who dedicated his life to the service of his country.

Major General Dladla indicated that the member left a whole, not only in his position, but also in the hearts of the SAPS Family.

The General utilized the platform to put strong emphasis on the issue of operational readiness. “Just as we have always advised you, the issue of operational readiness cannot be taken lightly any longer. When we emphasise the issue of wearing bullet proofs, we are not concerned about our well-being as managers, but got for your safety, “he stated.

He extended a word of appreciation to SAPS family for their wavering commitment and support to their fellow member whose precious life was claimed by an accident.” As members in the battle against crime, we must continue to hold one another’s hand. That is the secret to winning the war”, the General said.

Major General Dladla concluded by consoling Xakayi’s family and thanked them for lending their son and brother to the South African Police Service.
