Several suspects arrested for possession of drugs and firearms in Mitchells Plain

WESTERN CAPE – On Thursday 13 June 2019 at about 14:20, Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit members were busy with crime prevention duties in Sharon Street, Tafelsig, when they stopped and searched a suspicious looking male.

When police searched the suspect, they found 21 units of heroin in his possession. The 27-year-old man was arrested and faces charges of possession of drugs.

At about 21:37, members were busy with crime prevention duties, when they stopped and searched a suspicious male in Assegaaibos Street, Tafelsig. When police searched the 23-year-old suspect, they found a silver 9mm Baretta pistol with its serial number filed off. It contained a magazine with seven 9mm rounds. The suspect was arrested and faces a charge of possession of prohibited firearm and a second charge of possession of ammunition. The suspect is an alleged gang member.

Later the same day at about 18:00 members were busy with crime prevention duties in Jonkershoek Street, Tafelsig when they stopped and searched a suspicious looking male. They searched the suspect, and found 21 half Mandrax tablets, five packets of tik and five units of heroin in his possession. Police arrested the 54-year-old on a charge of possession of drugs.

All the arrested suspects are due to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 18 June 2019, on the mentioned charges.
