South Africa: Copper Cable Thieves Nabbed

Ngome police conducted an intelligence driven operation which led to the arrest of five suspects aged between 22 and 37 and the recovery of suspected stolen copper cables at Ngenetsheni area. The suspects were arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen property. They appeared at Ngotshe District Court on 20 May 2016 and were remanded in custody until 24 May 2016 for formal bail application.

Police investigation revealed that the cables were stolen at a local farm in Uitvaal in the early hours of 18 May 2016. During police operation, five men were apprehended whilst driving a Ford bakkie, loaded with copper cables with an estimated value of R4000-00. Police will investigate further to ascertain if the men can be linked to other copper cable theft cases in the area. Cables and the vehicles were both seized by police.
