Stolen cellphones recovered, suspects in court

DURBAN – On 03 January 2021, police arrested a 20-year-old suspect for robbery. It is alleged on the same day at 09:15, a security guard and staff members were performing their duties at a business premises when a group of suspects who were armed with firearms held them up at gunpoint. The victims were locked in the office and suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones from the safe before fleeing the scene.
A case of robbery was registered at Pinetown police station and detectives began their investigation. The investigation led police to Bester near KwaMashu. At a house, a suspect was found in possession of the stolen cellphones. A toy gun was also seized from the suspect. His accomplices are still at large and are being sought by police. The arrested suspect has been charged for robbery and is appearing at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court today.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended Pinetown police for tracking the suspect and for recovering the stolen cellphones.
