Two men arrested and three unlicensed firearms confiscated

WESTERN CAPE – Swift response by the police led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man with two firearms in Petunia street, Scottsville, Kraaifontein. Police acted on information after a suspect allegedly threatened a businessman with a firearm in Brass street, Brackenfell this morning. Police responded to the complaint, when they arrived at the scene, the suspect had already fled the scene. A clear description of the suspect as well as in which direction he fled was obtained from the complainant.
The police officers immediately drove towards Petunia street, Scottsville, Kraaifontein and conducted a search for the suspect. They found him hiding behind the bushes next to the railway line. The suspect was in possession of two firearms.
In an unrelated incident, Public Order Police followed up on information at Mbekweni today and conducted a search on the premises and they found a firearm in a cupboard and Tik. A 27-year-old man was arrested.
Both suspects will appear in court once they have been charged.
The Western Cape police management praised the members for ensuring a safer festive season in the province by removing unlicensed firearms from the communities.
