Two suspects arrested in Steenberg and Goodwood

WESTERN CAPE – The vigilant efforts of members attached to the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit have led to the arrest of a 26 year old suspect in connection with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Members were conducting patrols in Lavender Hill at about 19:30 on Monday (2020-06-08) during which the suspect saw the marked police vehicle and began running. The members pursued the suspect and caught him in Ashley Court, Lavender Hill and, upon searching the suspect, they found a 45mm Norinco pistol with several rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested and he appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on charges related to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
In an unrelated incident, on Monday (2020-06-08) at around 17:45, members attached to the Maitland Flying Squad acted on information and proceeded to Hibiscus Road, Tygerdal, and Goodwood where they conducted a search and seizure operation. During the operation, members discovered 2017 crayfish tails valued at R 120 000 of which most were undersized and had no permit. Upon further investigation, cigarettes with a value of R 54 251 were also confiscated from the premises. One suspect was arrested on charges related to the illegal possession of undersized/crayfish tails and the possession of illicit goods and will appear in court soon.
