Vigilantism condemned by the South African Police Service

OR TAMBO DISTRICT – A murder case is being investigated by Ngqeleni Detectives following the stabbing and assaulting of a 35-year-old man at Bukwini locality in Ngqeleni today at about 01h00.

It is alleged that the deceased was caught red handed by members of the community who responded while he was raping a 70-year-old woman who cried for help at a forest in the locality. It is further alleged that the suspect raped the victim at knife point. The victim allegedly managed to disarm the suspect of his knife and stabbed him in the upper body. Reportedly, when the community members arrived, the suspect, who was still alive, charged at them and he was subsequently assaulted and he died on the spot as a result of injuries sustained.

The victim was later taken to hospital for medical attention. A case of rape was opened against the deceased and a murder case was also opened against the community members. No arrest has been made as yet regarding the murder case and investigation is continuing.
