Cologne: Optimism reigns supreme amongst South African businesspeople who are heading to Germany to participate in the Anuga Food and Beverage Trade Fair. The fair will take place in Cologne, Germany, from 4 – 8 October 2025.
According to South African Government News Agency, as part of the country’s export market diversification initiatives, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has set up a national pavilion at the fair, where 30 South African agro-processing companies will showcase their products. The businesspeople are eager to leverage this platform to attract international importers and secure valuable trade leads.
Peter Symons, Sales Executive of Macavation, expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to interact with potential new customers and network with global companies. Macavation specializes in macadamia innovations, producing a range of products, including macadamia oils and protein powders. The KwaZulu-Natal-based company, which exports primarily to Europe and Canada, employs 34 full-time staff.
Retang Phaahla, CEO of Limpopo-based Set€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¡ong Tea Crafters, shared her excitement about entering the German market. She highlighted the existing market for Rooibos tea in Germany and emphasized the potential for job creation and business growth. Set€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬¦¡ong Tea Crafters employs 30 permanent and 15 seasonal workers, producing tea from indigenous plants consumed in Limpopo for centuries.
Taryn Muller, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Niice Foods, aims to secure new partnerships in Europe and the UAE. This marks the company’s second participation in Anuga, with a focus on expanding its global market presence. Niice Foods, based in Mpumalanga and employing 12 people, is known for its value-added macadamia products, including its flagship cooking oil.
Jill Atwood-Palm, General Manager of the South African Fruit and Vegetable Canners Export Council (SAFVCEC), emphasized Anuga’s significance as a global platform for showcasing the South African canned fruit and vegetable industry. She noted the fair’s role in market research and trend identification.
