Pretoria: North West Premier Kagiso Lazarus Mokgosi is set to spearhead the launch of the Thuntsha Lerole programme in the Tswaing Local Municipality on Friday. The municipality, part of the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, is among the ten local municipalities included in Phase 5 of the provincial government’s Accelerated Service Delivery Programme due to existing service delivery issues.

According to South African Government News Agency, the provincial government has identified challenges such as inconsistent water supply and deteriorating road infrastructure in the municipality. In response, Premier Mokgosi, alongside Members of the Executive Council (MECs), will officially inaugurate an internal road in Matshelapad as part of efforts to improve access to quality services.

To further address road infrastructure concerns, the provincial government has announced plans for pothole patching from Delareyville to Ottosdal and blading on selected internal roads throughout the municipality. Additionally, under the Title Deeds Friday campaign, which aims to restore title deeds nationwide, Premier Mokgosi will symbolically distribute 10 out of 1,282 title deeds to rightful owners.

The initiative will also see the handover of three completed RDP houses to designated beneficiaries. Provincial leaders will visit the site of the new Delareyville Bulk Pharmacy, a facility expected to significantly enhance medicine supply and healthcare delivery across the municipality and nearby health facilities.

Efforts to support local communities include the distribution of fresh produce to indigent families in Matshelapad, Jachtkraal, and Skierlik, as well as 105 food parcels to households in Thawane village. In the realm of youth development, sports equipment will be provided to nine schools, and traditional attire will be given to the Agisanang Traditional Group.

To boost economic opportunities, representatives from the Centralised Supplier Database (CSD) will assist with company profile registration, updates, and amendments. Integrated primary health care services will be available to ensure community members receive essential health screenings and support. Additionally, as part of the Clean Cities initiative, efforts to clear illegal dumping sites will be undertaken throughout the municipality.

The Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded programme will also be implemented in two other districts. In the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District, it will be launched at the Pitsong Community Hall in the Greater Taung Local Municipality. Meanwhile, in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, public services will be provided at the Tswelelang location in Wolmaranstad, within the Maquassi Hills Local Municipality.
