Pretoria: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is urging applicants for the disability grant to utilize the online platform for booking disability-related assessments.

According to South African Government News Agency, SASSA stated that the platform enables beneficiaries to access services from the comfort of their homes, saving on transportation costs and avoiding lengthy queues. The initiative is designed to offer convenience, not to discourage visits to SASSA offices. Individuals lacking internet access are advised to visit local SASSA offices for assistance with booking assessments.

SASSA emphasized that after completing the assessment, applicants can finalize and submit their applications online. It is crucial for applicants to ensure all documents are certified, valid within six months, and accurate before uploading. To safeguard against scams, beneficiaries are warned against seeking help from strangers and sharing personal information with unreliable individuals.

The agency reassures that if applicants encounter difficulties accessing services online, they are welcome to seek help at SASSA offices. Eligibility for the disability grant requires South African citizenship, permanent residency, or refugee status, age between 18-59, and a medical assessment confirming disability. Applicants must also provide a duly completed referral form from a treating facility, undergo a means test with their spouse, and not be receiving care in a state-funded institution or another social grant for themselves. Identification documents are necessary for both the applicant and spouse, with alternatives prescribed by SASSA accepted if standard documents are unavailable.

For further information, beneficiaries can contact SASSA toll-free at 0800 60 10 11 or [013] 754 – 9428/9363 during working hours from Monday to Friday, or via WhatsApp at 082 046 8553.
